As séries mais nomeadas para os Emmy Awards foram Game of Thrones com um total de 23 nomeações, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story com 22 nomeações e Fargo com 18 nomeações. O canal HBO continua a ser o mais nomeado com um total de 94 nomeações, seguido do FX com 56 nomeações e o Netflix com 54 nomeações; AMC (24), Showtime (22), Comedy Central (17), Amazon (15), History (13) e A&E (12). No canais generalistas a NBC conseguiu 41 nomeações, seguida da ABC e CBS com 35, a Fox com 29 e a PBS com 26, já o canal CW, que tem conseguido boas críticas para as suas comédias, apenas arrecadou 5 nomeações.
A minha primeira reacção é em relação à série Roots que até foi nomeada, contudo nenhum dos seus actores recebeu qualquer nomeação. Malachai Kirby, Emayatzy Corinealdi, Forest Whitaker, Regé-Jean Page e Erica Tazel mereciam a nomeação. Não houve qualquer nomeação para a série The Expanse, mas estamos a falar de uma série de sci-fi, era óbvio que não ia ser nomeada. Já a série The Man in the High Castle que teve crítica excelente apenas foi nomeada numa categoria mais técnica. The Walking Dead continua a não ter qualquer nomeação para os seus actores. A série de horror Penny Dreaful também continua a não merecer qualquer nomeação nas categorias principais. Séries excelentes como Outlander, Daredevil e Jessica Jones também ficaram de fora para grande pena minha. Espero ainda que o programa Last Week Tonight With John Oliver leve o Emmy de Melhor Série de Variedade: Talk Series, agora que o programa de John Stewart terminou.
Finalmente nomearam Tatiana Maslany por Orphan Black, não sei o que se terá passado, mas perceberam que ela existe e é excelente! Felizmente não deixaram Mr. Robot de fora e ainda nomearam o actor Rami Malek que merece levar o Emmy este ano. The Americans, que tem tido uma crítica excelente, mereceu também várias nomeações. Vá lá que não se esqueceram da série UnReal, que também mereceu algumas nomeações. Houve ainda várias surpresas com as nomeações dos actores de Game of Thrones nas caterogias de Melhor Actor Secundário, para Kit Harrington e Peter Dinklage (normalmente a nomeação ia apenas para Peter Dinklage que já venceu o Emmy por duas vezes nesta categoria) e para Melhor Actriz Secundária, para Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams e Lena Headley.
A 68ª Cerimónia dos Emmy Awards terá lugar no The Microsoft Theater em Los Angeles, no Domingo, dia 18 de Setembro com transmissão no canal ABC e com presentação de Jimmy Kimmel. Abaixo, fica a lista com as nomeações nas principais categorias.
