Valérian e Laureline

Valerian e a Cidade dos Mil Planetas, o novo filme de Luc Besson, estreia-se em Portugal a 27 de Julho de 2017, como tal, parece uma boa altura para lançar novas edições da famosa Banda Desenhada, Valérian, agente espácio-temporal. Valérian e Laureline, como foi rebaptizada em 2007 aquando do seu quadragésimo aniversário, é uma banda desenha franco-belga de ficção científica, criada por Pierre Christin (autor), Jean-Claude Mézières (ilustrador) e Évelyne Tranlé (colorista). Foi publicada pela primeira vez na revista Pilote em 1967 e editada posteriormente em álbum pela Dargaud a partir de 1970.

O PÚBLICO e a ASA editam esta colecção de banda desenhada, Valérian, já a partir de 26 de Julho de 2017 (um dia antes da estreia da adaptação da história para cinema). Trata-se de uma colecção especial, resultante de uma parceria entre o jornal Público e a editora ASA, composta por 12 volumes (11 dos quais duplos) que incluem os 23 álbuns até agora publicados originalmente em francês. Os onze álbuns duplos e um individual estarão disponíveis para os leitores do jornal Público por 8.90€, todas as Quartas-Feiras. Valérian e Laureline são dois agentes espácio-temporais ao serviço de Galaxity, a capital do que resta do Império Galáctico Terrestre no séc. XXVIII.

Esta será a segunda edição dos álbuns em Portugal, uma vez que a série estava traduzida originalmente pela Meribérica. Esta excelente iniciativa permite que os já fãs da série façam uma nova colecção das icónicas histórias e abrirá a possibilidade de arrecadar novos leitores para Valérian e Laureline. A série de banda desenhada é louvada sobretudo pelo desenho e é considerada um clássico da ficção científica, que influenciou as gerações seguintes na banda desenhada e no imaginário dos escritores e fãs de ficção científica. Pessoalmente, acho a arte fabulosa e as ideias muito boas, mas a execução da história fica quase sempre aquém das expectativas. Para além disso, nota-se a tentativa de dar alguma igualdade entre as personagens de Valérian e Laureline (por vezes até parece sugerir que ela é bem mais inteligente e desenrascada do que ele, mas depois ele é que sai como o herói da situação - facto, que inclusive, é frisado por Laureline nalguma das vinhetas finais). De notar que o título da série devia ser Valérian e Laureline como foi rebaptizada em francês em 2007, e ainda que as edições desta colecção não serão em cada dura, o que é uma pena.

Gary Provost. (1944-1995) foi um escritor e professor norte-americano. Após ter terminado o secundário, recusou um trabalho respeitável num banco e andou um ano à boleia, percorrendo a América. Depois decidiu ser escritor. Durante dez anos, publicou sete romances e, ao fim dessa década, dedicou-se à não-ficção. Trabalhou como jornalista freelancer, colaborando com vários jornais e revistas.

Em 1980, lançou o seu primeiro livro sobre escrita, Make Every Word Count, que rapidamente se tornou um sucesso de vendas. Nos anos 80 e 90, continuou a publicar livros, fez conferências e deu cursos, em várias cidades dos EUA, ensinando a arte da escrita e partilhando o saber acumulado ao longo a sua carreira de homem de letras. O livro Cem Maneiras de Melhorar a Escrita, publicado em 1985, converteu-se numa lenda, com sucessivas reedições. Finalmente, é agora publicado em Portugal.

A Editora Saída de Emergência prepara-se para lançar Nove Príncipes de Âmbar de Roger Zelazny, o primeiro livro da saga As Crónicas de Âmbar, a 7 de Abril de 2017. A Editora conseguiu os direiros dos primeiros cinco livros da saga depois de Robert Kirkman, o produtor da série The Walking Dead, anunciar que adquiriu os direiros da saga para adaptação televisiva.

Roger Zelazny foi uma dos autores mais prolíferos dos anos 60 e 70, dedicando-se tanto à fantasia como à ficção científica, publicando dezenas de contos e romances. O autor venceu o prémio Hugo várias vezes, incluindo Melhor Romance para This Immortal (1966) e Lord of Light (1968).

A Torch Against the Night

O segundo volume da trilogia An Ember in the Ashes foi lançado a 30 de Agosto de 2016. A Torch Against the Night é a continuação de An Ember in the Ashes (2015), que também dá nome à trilogia. Vamos finalmente saber como corre a fuga de Laia e Elias e a tentativa de salvar o irmão dela, que está na prisão mais segura e perigosa do Império.

Como já tinha referido, gostei bastante do primeiro volume da trilogia, mesmo achando que Laia e Helene estão muito melhor desenvolvidas do que Elias. Para um livro young adult, a história até está bem desenvolvida e gostei do facto de não termos apenas um ponto de vista.

Em Portugal, os livros estão a ser traduzidos pela Editorial Presença, vamos lá ver quando sairá a tradução do segundo volmue em português. Abaixo, fica a sinopse em inglês.

Neil Gaiman já terminou de escrever a sua nova colecção de contos com o título Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances, que será lançado a 3 de Fevereiro de 2015. 

O autor, juntamente com Lorenzo Mattoti reimaginaram o famoso conto de fadas dos Irmãos Grimm e criaram uma novela gráfica de Hansel & Gretel. O lançamento está marcado para 28 de Outubro de 2014. 

A história ainda nem está publicada, mas os direitos para adapatá-la ao cinema já foram adquiridos pela produtora Juliet Blake que já trabalhou com Steven Speilberg. Neil Gaiman confessa que: “For me, retelling Hansel and Gretel was a way of telling an old tale in a way that made it immediate and true, and about us, now. It reminds us of how paper thin civilization really is. It’s about hunger, and about families. I’m thrilled and delighted to be working with Juliet Blake to bring Hansel and Gretel to the world again, and to show people how much this story has to say to us.”

Não costumo falar de jogos aqui, principalmente porque não tenho experiência e não percebo muito do assunto, só joguei alguns jogos de porrada na Playstation, mas tratando-se de um jogo do Neil Gaiman, não podia deixar de o mencionar aqui. Talvez até o venha a jogar. Wayward Manor vai ser lançado no Steam e no Humble Store já a 15 de Julho e estará disponível para PC e Mac.

A história passa-se nos anos 20 em Inglaterra, uma aventura em forma de puzzle que começa com o jogador morto. Os Budds, uma família disfuncional de inadaptados e excêntricos, trouxeram suas posses abismais para a sua humilde residência e suprimiram o seu poder. Novo Livro de J. K. Rowling sob o Pseudónimo Robert Galbraith

 J. K. Rowling vai publicar o segundo romance policial sob o pseudónimo Robert Galbraith. O título do novo romance será Silkworm e será lançado a 24 de Junho pela editora Little, Brown.

O primeiro romance sob pseudónimo, The Cuckoo's Calling (2013), era um policial protagonizado pelo detective Cormoran Strike - um ex-soldado que perdeu uma perna no Afeganistão - e pela sua jovem secretária Robin Ellacort.

Agora, a dupla vai procurar um romancista policial desaparecido, que se chama Owen Quine e que tinha acabado um manuscrito em que retratava de forma bastante venenosa todas as pessoas que conhecia, deixando a entender que algumas vidas iriam ser destruídas.

Parece que a escritora, famosa pela série Harry Potter, segue uma linha mais ao nível do policial tradicional dedutivo de Dorothy L. Sayers ou de Agatha Christie e não as versões mais realistas, violentas e modernas do género policial.

A famosa autora inglesa da série Harry Potter publicou um policial sob o pseudónimo Robert Galbraith em Abril, em Inglaterra. O livro com o título The Cuckoo's Calling conta a história de Cormoran Strike, um veterano da guerra do Afeganistão que se torna detective privado e tenta desvendar o caso do suicídio de um modelo feminino. A autora queria saber como seria a recepção de um livro seu sem a pressão da fama e expectativa em relação ao que estava a fazer e parece que tanto os leitores como a crítica aprovaram o livro.
