Vencedores 2014

O James Tiptree, Jr. Award é um prémio literário anual que "is presented annually to a work of science fiction or fantasy that explores and expands gender roles. The award seeks out work that is thought-provoking, imaginative, and perhaps even infuriating. It is intended to reward those writers who are bold enough to contemplate shifts and changes in gender roles, a fundamental aspect of any society". O nome do prémio foi dado em homenagem à escritora Alice B. Sheldon, que escreveu sob o pseudónimo James Tiptree, Jr. durante muitos anos antes de revelar a sua identidade e o seu verdadeiro nome. 

O conselho do prémio literário James Tiptree, Jr. anunciou as vencedoras e a lista de honra relativa ao ano de 2014:

 

Jo Walton’s My Real Children is a richly textured examination of two lives lived by the same woman. This moving, thought-provoking novel deals with how differing global and personal circumstances change our view of sexuality and gender. The person herself changes, along with her society. Those changes influence and are influenced by her opportunities in life and how she is treated by intimate partners, family members, and society at large. The alternate universe trope allows Walton to demonstrate that changes in perceptions regarding gender and sexuality aren’t inevitable or determined by a gradual enlightenment of the species, but must be struggled for. My Real Children is important for the way it demonstrates how things could have been otherwise — and might still be.

Monica Byrne’s The Girl in the Road is a painful, challenging, glorious novel about murder, quests, self-delusion, and a stunning science-fictional big idea: What would it be like to walk the length of a few-meter-wide wave generator stretching across the open sea from India to Africa, with only what you can carry on your back? With profound compassion and insight, the novel tackles relationships between gender and culture and between gender and violence. It provides a nuanced portrait of violence against women, in a variety of forms, and violence perpetrated by women. Through the eyes of two narrators linked by a single act of violence, the reader is brought to confront shifting ideas of gender, class, and human agency and dignity.

Nomeações 2015

Já são conhecidos os nomeados para os Hugo Awards de 2015 em relação a publicações do ano anterior. Parece que que já uma grande polémica em volta das nomeações deste ano, mas a organização só poderá alterar as regras das nomeações no próximo ano. Depois de uma paragem de quase seis meses, a série Outlander volta para a segunda parte da primeira temporada. Com estreia agendada para hoje, dia 4 de Abril, vamos finalmente poder assistir aos restantes oito episódios da temporada e saber como é que Claire será salva da situação em que a vimos há vários meses. Com elementos de fantasia e ficção científica, vamos continuar as seguir as aventuras de Claire num passado ao qual ela se têm de adaptar rapidamente enquanto tenta desesperadamente regressar ao seu tempo e ao seu marido. O episódio desta semana, o nono, é "The Reckoning".

Outlander baseia-se na série com o mesmo título de Diana Gabaldon, romances históricos com viagens no tempo. Esta primeira temporada é a adaptação do primeiro livro da série que também se chama Outlander. A série, criada por Ronald D. Moore (um dos criadores de Battlestar Galactica), foi renovada para uma segunda temporada logo uma semana após a sua estreia. A segunda temporada de, pelo menos 13 episódios, baseia-se no segundo livro da série, Dragonfly in Amber.

Com uma banda sonora fabulosa, uma caracterização muito boa e uma história interessante e cativante, a série já ganhou bastantes fãs e conseguiu cerca de um milhão de telespectadores por episódio no canal Starz, que não tinha audiências tão boas desde uma das temporadas de Spartacus.

Novo Livro de Lois McMaster Bujold

Lois McMaster Bujold anunciou que vai lançar um novo romance da série Cordelia Vorkosigan na editora Bean Books, com o título: Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen. A autora, que venceu o Hugo Award e o Nebula Award com a Saga Vorkosigan, confirmou que o seu novo romance sairá em Fevereiro de 2016, para gáudio dos fãs da série.

O timing é perfeito, uma vez que em 2016 também se assinalam os trinta anos da publicação dos três primeiros romances da Saga Vorkosigan: Shards of Honor, The Warrior’s Apprentice e Ethan of Athos.

Grande parte dos livros da Saga Vorkosigan seguem as aventuras de Miles Vorkosigan, mas a autora já escreveu alguns volumes que seguem a história de Cordelia Vorkosigan, vários anos antes do nascimento de Miles. Embora exista uma cronologia em termos de narrativa que segue a evolução da vida de Miles, Bujold já publicou várias histórias que focam épocas passadas da família Vorkosigan sobre acontecimentos dos quais se vão falando ao longo da narrativa.

É o segundo single do novo álbum de Muse, Drones, que será lançado a 8 de Junho. "Dead Inside" é a primeira música do álbum, apesar de a banda ter lançado primeiro "Psycho". Depois de um primeiro single bem forte, esta música parece bem mais calminha.

Painel de Arrow no PaleyFest 2015

Séries Fantásticas

Como sou fã da série Arrow, vou acompanhando a maior parte das novidades da série e este painel no PaleyFest 2015 vale a pena ver. Não revela muito sobre o futuro da série, mas os produtores disseram que depois do final da terceira temporada, as coisas nunca mais serão as mesmas. Vamos lá ver que alterações trará uma nova temporada, mas se mexerem no trio original: Oliver, Diggle e Felicity (se um deles morre ou deixa da Team Arrow), eu vou ficar muito chateada. O Oliver é a alma da série, mas sem o Diggle e a Felicity, as coisas nunca seriam as mesmas...

Para além disso, não percebo muito bem as pessoas que são fãs da BD e não gostam da adaptação televisiva e muito menos aquelas que vão para as redes sociais dizer que detestam uma ou outra personagem e desejam que ela morra ou desapareça. E ainda percebo menos aqueles que não gostam de personagens que se queixam, choram e reclamam, pessoas, se não gostam disso, não deviam ver esta série, ou nenhuma série, há sempre malta queixar-se, chorar ou reclamar, uns mais que outros, mas é a vida na ficção ou a coisa não teria muita graça. Dito isto, as pessoas que estavam naquela audiência, parecem ser mesmo fãs da série e aplaudiram bastante o elenco todo, neste painel bastante divertido.

É o segundo filme da trilogia, The Divergent Series, que adapta os livros de Veronica Roth, Divergent (2011), Insurgent (2012) e Allegiant (2013). A história tem lugar depois dos acontecimentos traumáticos do primeiro filme, com Tris e os restantes rebeldes a continuarem a fugir de Janine Matthews, que pretende encontrar os divergentes a qualquer custo. Parece que a história se desvia bastante dos livros neste segundo filme.

O livro foi eleito o melhor livro de Ficção científica publicado em paperback nos E.U.A. em 2014. O livro Elysium de Jennifer Marie Brissett (Aqueduct Press) mereceu uma menção especial.

Já há um trailer para a série no Netflix, Daredevil. A estreia está agendada para 10 de Abril no canal e parece que vamos ter uma grande adaptação da banda desenhada para a televisão. Pelas imagens dá para ver que Daredevil tem um tom adulto e bastante sombrio e arrisco-me a dizer que o elenco foi bastante bem escolhido. Por cá não me parece que a série chegue a passar em algum canal, mas já sabem que podem sempre recorrer a outros meios. Abaixo, fica o trailer para abrir o apetite a quem se possa interessar.

Luta, aventura, cenários fabulosos, num mundo onde a fantasia e a ficção científica se juntam na nova aposta da Disney. O filme chega aos cinemas a 22 de Maio de 2015.

Never Let You Down

"Never Let You Down" fará parte da Banda Sonora do filme Insurgent, o segundo filme da trilogia Divergent. A música é uma colaboração entre Woodkid e Lykke Li. O filme estreia a 20 de Março a nível mundial.

E já são três os trailers do segundo filme dos Avengers: Age of Ultron! Há tanta coisa a acontecer, que nem sei por once começar! Momento muito bom do Thor a perguntar se aquilo é o melhor que o Ultron consegue e o Captain America a comentar "You had to ask!". A Black Widow e o Hulk? Really? O Thor chateado com o Tony, será que vão lutar outra vez? Sequências de acção fabulosas! Vá, o trailer não conta tudo, mas já vimos tanto nos trailers que quero é que o filme chegue logo! O que não percebo é porque é que colocam o Tony Stark como o criador do Ultron e não apresentaram o Hank Pym (Ant-Man que sai em Julho de 2015), uma vez que já estão a fazer o filme com ele!
