Já estreou nos Estados Unidos a quinta temporada de Pretty Little Liars. Por cá ainda está a passar a quarta temporada que estou a ver. A série é para adolescentes, mas consegue manter o suspense de um episódio para o outro e as actrizes têm evoluido bastante desde o início da série. Só é pena os episódios não avançarem mais rápido e a acção demorar tanto tempo a desenvolver alguma coisa finalmente.

Estreia hoje nos E.U.A. a segunda temporada de Defiance, a série de ficção científica do SyFy sobre uma invasão extraterreste e a forma como a sociedade evoluiu vários anis depois e agora vivem e partilham várias cidades.

Confesso que me falta ver dois episódios da primeira temporada, por isso só irei começar a acompanhar a nova temporada quando terminar a primeira. De resto, estou curiosa sobre os temas que a nova temporada vai abordar e a forma como as interacções humanas e alienígenas vão continuar num mundo onde a incerteza é uma constante.

Revista BANG! #16

A Revista BANG #16 já está disponível nas várias lojas da FNAC. Com a mesma capa do primeiro livro de Brandon Sanderson, O Império Final, a ser editado em Portugal pela Saída de Emergência, conta com um artigo sobre o livro e o autor, uma entrevista com Brandon Sanderson e ainda um artigo sobre a capa feita por Luís Melo.

A Revista tem também os contos "Pensando no Relógio" de Rui Rodrigues Alves, "Abiogenesis" de Pedro G. P. Martins e "Imersão", o conto de Aliette de Bodard traduzido. Conta com artigos sobre as aventuras de Dunk & Egg, sobre Sheridan Le Fanu e Robert E. Howard, e artigos de João Lameiras sobre Le Transperceneige, a banda desenhada que foi adaptada ao cinema e que estreia este ano por cá; de Luís Filipe Silva sobre a Colecção Argonauta, que continua o artigo começado na revista anterior; uma visão alargada das Visões de Utopia por Artur Coelho; e a terceira parte do artigo As Cidades na Ficção por João Rosmaninnho.

The Expendables 3

Cinema

Como tenho um irmão sete anos mais velho do que eu, passei a minha infância e adolescência a ver os filmes que ele via (não todos, claro, mas principalmente os filmes de acção). Naturalmente, filmes do Sylvester Stallone, Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Wesley Snipes, Steven Seagal (atenção: o "Esteves Gaivota" não vais participar nos Expendables), e mais uns quantos, eram filmes que na altura adorava. 

Quando este conceito dos "expendables" saiu, achei a ideia genial, eles não só gozam com eles próprios, como ainda podes ver porrada à farta, é acção do início ao fim, tem momentos cómicos e os filmes fazem uma pessoa lembrar-se desses velhos tempos em que o herói do filme de acção não só superava tudo e todos os desafios ao longo do filme, como no fim ainda ficava com a rapariga depois de matar o vilão. Estes filmes são um homenagem a esse género de filme e têm sido espectaculares.

Desta vez o vilão é o Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson, um dos meus actores preferidos de sempre), antigo amigo  de Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) e co-fundador dos Expendables que agora é um implacável traficante de droga. E parece que o filme começa logo com uma cena em que vão resgatar Wesley Snipes de uma prisão (Really? Oh ye!). Já não têm o Bruce Willis (o que é pena), mas agora têm o Harrison Ford e ainda o Antonio Banderas. Entretenimento puro, a não perder!

Guardians of the Galaxy

Hoje é dia de trailers! Saiu mais um trailer do muito aguardado Guardians of the Galaxy. Nele é possivel ver a Glenn Close com um penteado, no mínimo, extravagante, um plano brutal do Rocket (voz de Bradley Cooper), para além de um momento genial sobre bombas. A componente visual do filme vai ser de certeza bastante poderosa e as personagens parecem excelentes. De resto, não se sabe quase nada dos vilões, que é uma das partes que me está a deixar mais na expectativa em relação a esta estreia. Vamos lá ver se dará para ir ver em IMAX, creio que vale a pena.

O filme estreia a 7 de Agosto em Portugal. A não perder!

Theodore Sturgeon Award

"In Joy, Knowing the Abyss Behind", de Sarah Pinkser, publicado na revista Strange Horizons venceu o Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award que é dado ao melhor conto publicado pela primeira vez no ano anterior. O prémio é apresentado no Campbell Conference Awards Banquet na Universidade do Kansas em Lawrence, Kansas.

É mais um filme sobre o Drácula e já existem dois posters promocionais, mas ainda não se sabe muito sobre o projecto. O filme conta com Luke Evans (que participa da trilogia do Hobbit) como protagonista e com Dominic Cooper, Charlie Cox, Samantha Barks, Sarah Gadon e Paul Kaye. A estreia de Dracula Untold está marcada para o dia 3 de Outubro deste ano.

A série segue a história de Terry Seagrave e Hildy Mulligan, dois detectives da polícia de San Francisco, enquanto tentam desvendar casos tão complicados que mais parecem labirintos. 

A série conta com Tom Felton (o Draco Malfoy dos filmes do Harry Potter) e, segundo parece, não só não é nada simpático, como ainda pode ser um dos vilões da série.

Com um trailer interessante, esta é uma série para pessoas que gostam de crime, suspense e investigação.

É uma das minhas músicas preferidas de Bruce Springsteen. Embora não tenha percebido o contexto histórico da música quando a ouvi a primeira vez, agora percebo a importância da letra. Esta é uma série que estou a começar a ver, mas entretanto já estreia hoje a segunda tempodada nos Estados Unidos. Tanto quanto consegui a apurar, parece que ainda não passa em nenhum canal em Portugal. Resta recorrer àquele outro meio que todos conhecemos para conseguir ver as melhores séries que nunca cá chegam.

A série segue a história de Piper Chapman, uma mulher bissexual que vive em Nova York. Piper é condenada a 15 meses numa prisão federal para mulheres por transportar uma mala cheia de dinheiro de tráfico de droga para a sua ex-namorada, Alex Vause, que é uma traficante de droga internacional. O crime ocorreu 10 anos antes do início da série, e nessa altura Piper tinha deixado a vida do crime e tinha-se mudado para um bairro tranquilo de classe média alta em Nova York. Enquanto está na prisão, Piper reencontra Alex e, enquanto lidam com as suas companheiras, voltam a examinar a sua relação.

Haverá pouco a dizer sobre Jennifer Lawrence que não tenha já sido dito. Completamente desbocada, espontânea, um pouco destrambelhada e irreverente, irresístivel, linda e talentosa, é a menina bonita de Hollywood, nascida em 1990, que já tem uma sólida carreira no cinema e um Óscar em três nomeações. 

Com apenas 23 anos é a rapariga de que todos falam, as revistas querem-na nas capas, os sites e revistas de mexericos publicam tudo o que aparece sobre ela e comentam todos os seus comentários, é o exemplo que todas as adolescentes idolatram, é convidada para todos os programas de entretenimento da televisão norte-americana, aparece em vários ensaios para revistas, é elogiada pelos seus desempenhos e já deu algumas provas de grande versatilidade.

Jennifer Lawrence deu nas vistas pela primeira vez no filme Winter's Bone (2010) pelo qual recebeu a nomeação para o Óscar na categoria de Melhor Actriz. Não venceu, mas desde então nunca mais parou. No ano seguinte entra em X-Men: First Class (2011) para desempenhar uma jovem Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, que mais tarde se tornará numa das grandes vilãs de X-Men. 

Mas a verdadeira espiral da fama começa com a confirmação de que irá desempenhar o papel de Katniss Everdeen, a personagem principal da trilogia The Hunger Games, a trilogia de Suzanne Collins, que se tinha tornado um fenómeno literário. E é a adaptação cinematográfica de The Hunger Games (2012) que gera um fenómeno de bilheteiras que irá aumentar de ano para ano.

Decide então apostar numa comédia e, com Silver Linings Playbook (2012), ganha o Óscar de Melhor Actriz, o Globo de Ouro, o Screen Actors Guild Award e o Critics' Choice Movie Award. Em 2014 recebeu novamente uma nomeação para o Óscar na categoria de Melhor Actriz Secundária por American Hustle (2013).

Este ano já estreou X-Men: Days of Future Past onde volta à personagem Raven Darkhölme/Mystique; vai estrear Serena, baseado no romance homónino de Ron Rash onde volta a contracenar com Bradley Cooper; e também vai estrear o filme que será mais um fenómeno de bilheteira, The Hunger Games: Monckingjay Part 1, a primeira parte do fim da trilogia The Hunger Games.
