O álbum foi gravado em 1982, mas apenas saiu em 1983, assim como o vídeo que saiu a 2 de Dezembro desse ano. Realizado por John Landis, conhecido por fazer filmes de terror, "Thriller", foi o primeiro vídeo que a MTV passou e é considerado o vídeo de música pop mais influente de sempre, pois teve um grande impacto na cultura popular. Misturando a música com o terror, com efeitos especiais normalmente aplicados apenas no cinema, a coreografia e música de Michael Jackson, alcançaram um verdadeiro sucesso a nível mundial.
Polémicas à parte, Michael Jackson construiu uma carreira musical notável que teve muita influência na altura em que a sua carreira estava no auge e vai continuar a ter impacto a nível musical durante muitos anos. Confesso que não era absolutamente fã do cantor na minha adolescência, mas lembro-me de gostar imenso da música "Heal the World". Sem ter a certeza de qual será a minha música preferida dele, uma vez que existem várias muito boas, gosto particularmente de "Man in the Mirror", de "Bad" e de "Billie Jean".
